posted 01-01-10 08:27 PM EDT (US) You've probably already guessed my question from the title (in fact you probably groaned at the thought of another person asking this! :-P) but anyways basically a friend of mine (Mac user) recently talked me into seriously considering getting AoE3 because we used to play AoE2 together (just networked on some PC computers at my place). Anyway I've played the demos and while it's interesting I'm not willing to chuck £30 at the complete collection if it turns out that my Mac friend can't play online with PC users as I did read (admittedly on some seriously old threads) that Mac-PC doesn't work online. A different friend said he'd found a patch here that he read allows Mac to PC multiplayer. Just wondering if this actually worked or if it was just a fanmade patch in order to keep the patch balances being implemented for PCs in line with the Mac version. Also I've got another, much simpler, question: when you've installed AoE3 and both expansions, I assume that if I run the TAD version of the game then I have access to all the Warchiefs expansion stuff? Thanks guys! [This message has been edited by Sacred Voice (edited 01-01-2010 @ 08:32 PM).] | |

posted 01-01-10 08:33 PM EDT (US) 1 / 8 you can't play with mac against PC or visa versa, the mac and PC players have different multiplayer browsers so are not compatible even if he does get that patch. Also I've got another, much simpler, question: when you've installed AoE3 and both expansions, I assume that if I run the TAD version of the game then I have access to all the Warchiefs expansion stuff?yup, you should install them in order though (original, then TWC, then TAD) |

posted 01-10-10 01:46 PM EDT (US) 4 / 8 I use bootcamp on my mac to play on ESO, so he could do that if he got a hold of a Windows Operating System disc and he has Leopard. Meh. I come and go I guess. I no longer play on ESO. Just GameRanger. Also playing Starcraft II Beta though. My account name on SCII is Caiaphas.wisdom. |

posted 01-10-10 06:04 PM EDT (US) 5 / 8 Assuming a mac with intel processor, boot camp would be a very good option. Of course, it would mean the mac guy would have to buy the Windows version of AoE3 as well . |

posted 01-11-10 03:46 PM EDT (US) 6 / 8 Oh that's true, I had the Windows version originally so I forgot about that. Guess it's the only way to go though if you really want to play with him, but AoE3 for Windows is cheaper than it is for Mac anyway. Meh. I come and go I guess. I no longer play on ESO. Just GameRanger. Also playing Starcraft II Beta though. My account name on SCII is Caiaphas.wisdom. |
posted 01-12-10 04:16 PM EDT (US) 7 / 8 LOL absolutely. The Complete Edition for Windows is about the cost of the base game only for Mac ><. |
posted 01-14-10 11:39 PM EDT (US) 8 / 8 It's actually unrelated to the online service, since you can also play PC AoE3 on the PC version of GameRanger. But yeah, the Mac and PC versions of AoE3 are not cross-compatible even if you use Direct IP or LAN. No patch can fix this. |
